MANDALAY, Myanmar – January 24, 2019 – Today marks the opening of ananda’s flagship experience store in the heart of Mandalay, signalling the arrival of Myanmar’s first 4G+ data service to the country’s second largest commercial centre and rapidly emerging smart city.
ananda is a 100% Myanmar owned digital company with a vision to provide a wide spectrum of Multimedia and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions for consumers and business in Myanmar. Launched in Yangon in May 2018 and, ananda aims to continually expand its coverage and services to bring the fastest, unlimited data experience to everyone.
Mandalay is an important trading, communication and cultural center in northern and central Myanmar. It sits within a high-growth region with industries in mining, energy, and construction, and border trade with China and India. Myanmar’s last royal capital is also the gateway to the country’s top tourist destinations Bagan, Pyin Oo Lwin and Inle Lake.
Recently, Mandalay City has been recognised as one of the top 10 Southeast Asian cities that have achieved significant inroads in being a smart, connected city.
Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Zaw Myint Maung, Amara Communications Board Chairman U Than Win Swe, ananda Chief Executive Officer Alan Sinfield, and ananda Deputy Chief Executive Officer Aye Mya Mya Kyi led the distinguished guests at the opening of ananda’s ZayCho branch. Myanmar celebrities including singer Sai Sai Kham Leng and ananda’s Mandalay business partners also graced the opening.
“With the opening of our experience store, we are also introducing our service in Chanayethazan and Mahaaungmyay townships. From today, the people in these vibrant communities can enjoy high quality 4G+ connectivity,” said ananda Deputy CEO Aye Mya Mya Kyi.
Centrally located on 26th Street, between 80th and 81st Streets in Chanayethazan, ananda @ZayCho is one of two ananda experience stores within Chanayethazan.
New and exclusive to Mandalay routers will be available at the ananda experience stores and from 14 authorised dealers and seven specialised retailers located across all townships in Mandalay City. Customers can avail of the unlimited data offer or any one of the value packages that best suit their lifestyles.
According to Aye Mya Mya Kyi, Chanayethazan and Mahaaungmyay were the first to come online being most densely populated and well-developed in terms of trade & commerce, industrial, telecommunications, tourism entertainment, and education.
“We are fully committed to continuous network expansion. Our goal is to achieve full geographic and population coverage in Mandalay over the coming months. We are gearing up for the future and to be one of Mandalay’s smart city partners,” she added.
In 2016, the Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC) announced Mandalay 2040, a 30-year urban development plan with a vision to use smart technology to improve basic services. Today the City’s nearly 1.5 million people are benefiting from automated road traffic control and digitally-managed water supply systems and waste management.
Sensors have been installed to monitor road traffic in real time, remotely monitor and manage the health of water pipelines and meters, and to track garbage truck routes and collection schedule.
More projects are underway including an electronic toll payment using Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID)-based systems, digital census, e-payment gateways for property taxes and permits, and other a host of e-commerce, e-government, e-learning and disaster management solutions.
“We look forward to supporting Mandalay’s digital transformation for many years and to enriching the life of the local people. Mandalay’s vision to become a smart city is truly commendable; and combined with an efficient and coordinated project implementation, it’s nothing short of inspiring,” said ananda CEO Alan Sinfield.
ananda will be delivering fixed wireless broadband solutions that are ideal for home and office use, as well as ‘on-the-go’ solutions which will be available very soon in Chanayethazan and Mahaaungmyay townships.
As more townships go live in the coming months, a wide range of multimedia products and internet-enabled solutions will also be rolled out to fully leverage the power of the ananda network.
“Our goal is to create services that are feature-packed and cater to the unique needs of the people. In Mandalay, we see a culture so unique and rich; the local people are entrepreneurial, educated and tech-savvy, and the local leadership is embracing digital which is all very encouraging,” Sinfied said.
